King Street Bridge Project Enters The “We Had To Build A Thing To Fix The Thing” Phase
FDOT says crews needed special scaffolding built from the top down, because apparently even fixing the bridge requires a side quest.
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — FDOT gave an update on the King Street Bridge project, and the short version is: they had to build a thing to fix the thing.
Crews reportedly needed special scaffolding built from the top down so they can properly rehab the bridge, which feels about right for St. Augustine, where even a construction project somehow develops a subplot.
The bridge closure has already forced drivers into detour life, but this latest detail adds a little behind-the-scenes flavor to the whole thing. It is not just “bridge closed.” It is “bridge closed because first we had to construct a separate thing around the bridge so we could safely work on the bridge.”
Infrastructure nesting dolls. Historic, naturally.
So for now, the King Street Bridge remains in its repair era, FDOT remains in its scaffolding era, and everyone else remains in their “fine, I’ll take Malaga” era.
